The Neighbourhood

Galley Avenue is in the center of the old streetcar neighbourhoods on the west side of Old Toronto. The low-rise west side is cherished in Toronto for authenticity and vibrant cultures. Dozens of different ethnic groups call this area home, from Italians arriving 100 years ago to Tibetans arriving today (the largest Tibetan community outside Asia).

These neighbourhoods are close to the lake and teeming with parks. Safe, walkable and architecturally unique. For Torontonians, they are desirable for their proximity to the high rise business district while still retaining a village feel. For visitors, they are close to all the action - including the big tourist attractions like the CN Tower, as well as top sports and concert venues like the Scotiabank Arena (Maple Leafs, Raptors), the Rogers Centre (Blue Jays). BMO Field (soccer) and RBC Amphitheatre (major concerts).

Within walking distance are neighbourhoods like Little Portugal-Dundas, Roncesvalles, Little Italy-College, Bellwoods and West Queen.

Roncesvalles (aka, "Roncy"), two blocks west, is the closest commercial strip of all kinds of shops and services and a great family vibe.

Dundas West, four blocks northeast, is super hip and trendy, block after block of unique cafés, restaurants, bars, galleries, clothing, art and design shops.

West Queen West, three blocks south, is the heart of old Parkdale. It is now the hub of Little Tibet.

All of these 'hoods were once part of the Town of Parkdale - built in the 1870s when the streetcar tram system was first extended to High Park.
